Live Oak Park
About This Project
We transformed a small, unstructured garden into an elegant and intimate room, extending the home’s living area into the garden for my clients who enjoy entertaining and wanted a place for gatherings with friends and family.
A mild slope was resolved by creating two levels; a black basalt stone patio edged in Cor-ten steel, steps down into a decomposed granite courtyard, creating a modern and inviting space. We re-used existing cement walls to anchor a deep bench, used for dining and lounging. Large, raised areas for food production allow easy access to the kitchen. The beautiful vegetable beds from sustainable IPE wood, double as benches and surround a unique old iron vessel designed for bonfires and grilling.
To reduce water consumption, the planting focused on drought tolerant, architecturally interesting and unusual South African plants and succulents.
